Accuracy Guide

By default, Re-Console is configured to deliver an experience that is optimized in both performance and user experience. This does, however, come at the cost of some accuracy. This page will provide an in-depth guide on what settings (including the niche ones) you could change to bring the experience just a little closer to that of the latest versions of LCE.

Table of Contents

(these sections are ordered based on the L4J/LCE settings sections)

Enabling Manual Saving

Re-Console disables Legacy4J's Save Cache option by default to improve performance and mod compatibility. To enable manual saving, see Save Settings

Key

  • / - entirely optional/based on preference
  • // - options different based on edition
  • + - enable

The "Legacy4J Settings" screen

If at any point, you are lost in finding any of the options mentioned on this page, you can enter the Legacy4J Settings screen (bound to Y by default) and either use the search bar or scroll through the settings sections as you would outside of this screen. Global Resource Packs and Resource Albums are unavailable through this menu.

Advanced Options: User Interface

  • /Advanced Options Mode - set this to Default to reduce the amount of options seen per-screen to sort of match LCE, while adding a Show Advanced Options button (O on keyboard, Y on Xbox). Setting this to Hide does the same thing, but without adding Show Advanced Options. Merge is Re-Console's default setting as of 2.6.0.

Game Options

In-Game Settings

  • /Force Active Window - allows you to play with a controller while focused on a different window
  • //Legacy Sword Blocking - enables the pre-1.9 sword blocking mechanic, even if Legacy Combat is disabled. Keep disabled to match PS4 Edition
  • +Squared View Distance - replaces the shape of chunks seen near the edge of render distance with a square instead of a circle

Note: Legacy Sword Blocking and Squared View Distance can be changed in-game through the Host Options (H on keyboard, Back on Xbox)

User Interface Settings

  • /Lock Control Type Change - displays the assets from the selected Control Type applied at all times, instead of when on controller only
  • /Control Type - changes what edition of the game you'd like to be reflected in the interface through Control Icons and Title (if applicable). The aforementioned Lock Control Type Change will reflect these even when using keyboard & mouse input. If the keyboard and mouse tooltips look distorted, see Global Resource Packs
  • /Cursor Mode - changes the behavior of the mouse cursor in the interface. Auto should be ideal, but you can also set it to Never to have a more controller-exclusive experience.

Accessibility Settings

  • /Notification Time - this is the niche i was talking about set this to 0.7x to decrease the duration tooltips (such as Advancements) to match that of the Achievement popups seen on Wii U and Nintendo Switch Editions of LCE

Save Settings

  • +Save Cache - enabling this will enable the manual saving system as seen on all versions of LCE.
If you'd like to be on the safe side when enabling this, you can opt to disable the FastQuit mod.

Audio

  • /Hover Focus Sound - plays the little boop navigation sound when hovering on buttons with a mouse

Graphics

  • /Gamma - of course, this is personal preference, like on LCE. Typically, 75% or higher will emulate the visuals most people remember LCE for.

Video Settings

  • /Fullscreen Resolution (or your launcher's Window Resolution) - you can either set these to 1920x1080 to emulate the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Editions, or 1280x720 to emulate the "old-gen" home-console versions (e.g. Xbox 360)
  • /Max Framerate - you can set this to max out at 60 fps, as consoles were usually locked to this, and therefore, LCE was as well
  • //Render Distance
    • 18 chunks to match PS4 and XB1 Editions
    • 10 Chunks to match "old-gen" home-console versions
    • 5 Chunks to match PS Vita Edition
  • //Simulation Distance - set to minimum to match "old-gen" editions, otherwise leave at default 8 chunks
  • +Fast Leaves When Blocked+Fast Leaves Custom Models - emulates LCE's leaf culling visuals.
    • Fast Leaves Custom Models is required for this to work as mods that cull the leaves may conflict with this/cause this to not work
  • //Display Held Item Lighting - this was a PS4 Edition exclusive feature that lights up the viewmodel when a light source is held, which may not be preferred in some cases
  • /Legacy Item Pickup - the implementation of this (the variable speed of picking up items) doesn't entirely match LCE, as the item floats to where the player used to be, rather than where the player is, and may be perceived as a bug. May be changed in a future Legacy4J update.

Global Resource Packs

  • Shift + Left Click, or press X on keyboard/Xbox, to bring up the Global Resource Packs menu. These packs apply on top of Resource Albums, unless the pack is applied within them
  • Disable 1080p-kbm-tooltips.zip if the keyboard and mouse control icons look distorted/unreadable
  • Legacy Titles is used to replace the "Minecraft: Java Edition" title seen in the interface. If you would like to enable/disable this behavior, toggle Legacy Titles RC.zip

Resource Albums (known as Texture Packs on Re-Console)

  • Resource Albums are basically different "folders" or "albums" of resource packs that can be applied at once
  • By default, Re-Console ships with Resource Albums that reflect the Texture Packs shipped on LCE, as well as some other cool resource pack setups
  • Similarly to Global Resource Packs, you can Shift + Left Click or press X on keyboard/Xbox to change what resource packs should be applied when activating the album
  • Press O on keyboard/Y on Xbox to add an album, change it's name and description, or remove it entirely. Note that removing an album shipped by the current version of Re-Console will cause it to repopulate on next launch

User Interface

  • //Interface Distance - set to 50% to match handheld versions of LCE (e.g. PS Vita, Switch)
  • /Mod Crafting Tabs, Display Vanilla Tabs, Search Creative Tab, Operator Items Tab - toggle these based on preference, or disable all to match LCE. These tabs are accessed by pressing Shift + L/R Arrow or Right Analog Stick on controller

In-Game Settings

  • /HUD Load Delay - set this to 200% to generally match LCE
    • On LCE, the HUD elements took a brief second to load, but is presumably based on frame rate based on testing in XB1 Edition on WinDurango
  • //Autosave Countdown - this toggles the Autosaving in _... message seen on "old-gen" versions of LCE. Disable to match current-gen

Chat Settings

  • /Reduced Debug Info - disable if you'd like to use in-game tools and methods (e.g. maps, looking at the sun to determine direction) to check certain information instead of using the F3 menu, as you would in LCE
  • +Line Spacing - set this to 100% to match LCE
  • +Unfocused Height - set this to 180px to match LCE
